Style and formatting

The following style guidelines outline conventions, grammar, and Cloudflare-specific writing style in our content. These guidelines keep our content consistent and easy to read. Exceptions to these guidelines are outlined in channel-specific style guides.


Grammar

Use active voice.

Avoid exclamation points.

Use sentence case for titles and headings. With sentence case, only capitalize the first word and any proper nouns in a title or heading.

Use the Oxford comma. The Oxford comma should break up lists of three or more items in a sentence.

Only use ampersands where space is limited. An example of limited space is a clickable button.

Capitalization

Capitalize names of Cloudflare products, services, and features.

Acronyms

Define acronyms when they are introdcued. Never use an ancronym without defining it the first you use it on a page or in a particular section of content.

Do not use periods in acronyms.

Percentages

Use the % symbol for percentages.

Units of measurement

Spell out numbers less than 10, and use numerals for quantities equal to or greater than 10.

Do not use hashtags for numbered lists.
